Chief Financial Officer

The UB Foundation Board has announced the appointment of Mr. Patrick Richey as the new Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Richey currently serving as the Senior Vice President for Finance & Administration at Nazareth College of Rochester. He joins the senior leadership team led by recent AGB Search placement, CEO Stacy Knapper. Mr. Richey has over 30 years of progressive experience in senior leadership roles for higher education and government organizations as a Chief Financial Officer. Previously, Mr Richey worked as Vice President for Business and Finance/Treasurer at Canisius College in Buffalo, and as Vice President for Finance and Operations at Genesee Community College in Batavia, N.Y. In addition, he spent more than 15 years in local government management positions in several New York state municipalities. Mr. Richey holds a Master of Public Administration from Syracuse University and a BA from LeMoyne College.

 

Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

San Francisco State University has appointed Mr. Stefan Amrine as the new Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. He will begin his role on November 14, 2022. Mr. Amrine served first as a grant writer at Holy Names University, then for 5 years as their Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Prior to that, he was a donor relations writer at Santa Clara University.  At Holy Names, Mr. Amrine averaged over $2 million per year in portfolio funding and was instrumental in procuring and administering a Department of Education Title III grant of $3 million.  He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master of arts in secondary education from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

 

Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs

The University of North Dakota has appointed Dr. Randi Tanglen as its next Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs. Dr. Tanglen will assume her new role on January 17, 2023. Dr. Tanglen currently serves as the Executive Director of Humanities Montana in Missoula. Prior to her work there, she was a faculty member at Austin College. She was promoted to the rank of full professor of English in 2019 and also served as the director of the gender studies program and as director of the Johnson Center for Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Tanglen’s background in higher education teaching, leadership, faculty development and executive experience in operational and fiscal management provide her with the skills to support the academic departments and faculty members at UND. Dr. Tanglen earned her BA in English Education from Rocky Mountain College, MA in English from the University of Montana and PhD in English from the University of Arizona. Senior Director of Development, College of Science & Engineering

Ms. Holly Fincke has been appointed as the new Senior Director of Development, College of Science and Engineering, at San Francisco State University. She will begin her role on November 14th. Ms. Fincke currently serves as the Director of Development for the College of Science and the College of Education and Allied Studies at California State University East Bay, where she has worked for the past 5 years. Prior to that, she was the Associate Director of Annual Giving at the University of California Berkeley's School of Law.  At Cal State East Bay, Ms. Fincke increased giving from major donors in her portfolio by 900% in four years and was a key member of the team that achieved four of the five top fundraising years in CSUEB's history.  She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology/anthropology and women's studies from Oberlin College.

President

Texas State University System has appointed Sidney E. Valentine, Ph.D., as president of Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont. He will assume office August 16. Since 2015, Dr. Valentine has served as chief academic and student services officer at South Florida State College, where he provided academic leadership for the college’s transfer, vocational, technical, adult and community education, and workforce education programs. He also supervised the college’s applied research activities, grants, and institutional effectiveness efforts. Previously, Dr. Valentine served as associate vice president of industrial and engineering technology at York Technical College (SC) and as director of workforce and economic development at the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. He earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from The University of South Carolina and his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice

Arizona State University has appointed Dr. Beth Huebner, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, to the role of Director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, as well as the inaugural Watts Professor of Public Safety. Dr. Huebner will begin January 3, 2023. Dr. Huebner is recognized as a top scholar. Her principal research interests include the collateral consequences of incarceration, racial and gender disparities in the criminal justice system, and public policy. She serves as the current chair of the Division on Corrections and Sentencing for the American Society of Criminology. She is the editor for the Oxford Bibliographies in Criminology and is Associate Editor for Criminal Justice and Behavior. She earned her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel

James “Jamie” Jorgensen has accepted the role of Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel at the University of Iowa beginning September 30, 2022. Mr. Jorgensen, Senior Counsel at Husch Blackwell LLP since 2021, advises colleges and universities on numerous issues, including workplace and academic accommodations, accreditation, student conduct and faculty discipline, negotiation of real estate transfers, and academic programming partnerships. Previously, he was Chief of Staff and Chief Legal Counsel at Pitzer College in California. There, he conducted investigations under Title IX and other campus policies, led training sessions on Title IX, and helped develop the consortium’s response to COVID-19. Mr. Jorgensen has also served as an associate counsel and deputy general counsel at the University of Iowa. He received a B.A. degree in economics and political science, with distinction, from Iowa State University; a JD from the University of Michigan Law School and a PhD in education policy and leadership studies from the UI. Director, T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics

Arizona State University has appointed professor and sociologist Dr. Rebecca Sandefur as the new director of the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics. Dr. Sandefur previously taught at the University of Illinois, is a faculty fellow at the American Bar Foundation and the editor of Law & Society Review, and is the recipient of a MacArthur "genius" Fellowship in 2018 and the Warren E. Burger Award in 2020. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago and B.A. from the University of Wisconsin. Read more here.

Executive Director of Gift Planning and Gift Administration

The University of Colorado System (CU Anschutz, CU Boulder, CU Denver, and CU Colorado Springs) has appointed Mr. Jason Sprinkle as the new Executive Director of Gift Planning and Gift Administration. He will begin his role on August 16th.  Mr. Sprinkle currently serves as Director of Gift and Estate Planning at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has closed gifts of roughly $51 million over the last 3 years. Previously, he served as Associate Director of Gift Planning at the University of Chicago and, earlier, as a Gift Planning Attorney for the Indiana University Foundation. Mr. Sprinkle received his bachelor’s degree in English and political science, Master of Public Affairs in nonprofit management, and Juris Doctor, all from Indiana University.

Associate Director of Gift Planning

University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, has appointed Mr. Justin Howe as the new Associate Director of Gift Planning. He will begin his role on August 23rd. Mr. Howe currently serves as Senior Coordinator of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he has worked for the past 3 years. Prior to that, he was a Major Gifts Officer at the University of Michigan.  Mr. Howe brings to his work at UCCS a background in communications, project management, and philanthropy, as well as a track record of forging strong relationships between the institutions he serves and their external communities.  He received his bachelor’s and master's degrees in communications from Michigan State University.
