The State University of New York (SUNY) and the SUNY College of Optometry invite nominations as well as applications from visionary and accomplished leaders seeking to become the College’s next President. The SUNY College of Optometry advances visual health and patient care through leadership in education, research, and service and is a member of the State University of New York (SUNY) comprehensive system of higher education.

The Institution: 
The SUNY College of Optometry, founded in 1971, is dedicated to the education of optometrists, to the advancement of eye and vision care through research and graduate education, and to the care of communities through the provision of comprehensive visual health services. The College is located at 33 W. 42nd Street, opposite the historic New York Public Library and beautiful Bryant Park. The College's home is a magnificent and gracious edifice that affords students the professional and scientific opportunities that are modern and in a beautiful setting. The College is a specialized, post-baccalaureate, doctoral degree - granting research institution with approximately 400 full-time students and more than 100 faculty.

The Position: 
The next President will serve as the principal ambassador of the College in a manner that develops and strengthens relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other optometric institutions, professional associations, and government agencies for the benefit of the College. Reporting directly to the SUNY Chancellor, the president will work collaboratively with the campus college council, peer SUNY campuses, and represent the campus’ interests with local and state elected officials, surrounding communities, and within the national optometric communities. The president of the College of Optometry also serves as a member of the SUNY College of Optometry Foundation Board of Trustees. Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate; a Doctor of Optometry (OD) is preferred.
