Clark Atlanta University (CAU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Graduate Education. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Graduate Education provides strategic leadership and administrative direction for Graduate Education at the University. The Dean for Graduate Education is responsible for the implementation and compliance of policy concerning graduate academic services within the University. The Dean will assist academic program advisors, coordinators, department chairs, school deans and other stakeholders in the development of strategies to increase graduate enrollment. The Dean will direct, evaluate, and develop relevant and rigorous graduate academic programming to ensure that graduate education is well supported.

Clark Atlanta University is a private, coeducational, historically Black, four‐year university located in Atlanta, GA. It is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “Doctoral University – High Research Activity.” The University’s students are engaged in 38 areas of study in four schools: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and the Whitney M. Young, Jr., School of Social Work. Clark Atlanta University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to offer bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. 

The Dean of Graduate Education, in collaboration with the school deans and department chairs, shall advise and consult with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, on matters of graduate academic programming, policy decisions, program development, funding, and administration of graduate education. The Dean will ensure the general well-being of graduate students with respect to their graduate standing, Academic Standards and Requirements, and assist in the assignment of graduate research fellowships and teaching assistantships. The Dean of Graduate Education will ensure that new policies and graduate programs are appropriately approved by entities described in the CAU Graduate Handbook. 

Key qualifications for the position include but are not limited to: bringing a familiarity with graduate education best practices; knowledge of strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation; track record of developing and implementing graduate academic programs; proven ability to lead an academic unit; experience in making data-driven decisions in graduate education; excellent communication skills; impeccable integrity; and an earned doctorate and eligibility to be appointed in an appropriate academic department with tenure.
