Fairleigh Dickinson University has announced the appointment of Mr. Ed Silver to the position of General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer  He will begin serving the University on April 8, 2019.  Mr. Silver is currently Associate General Counsel at Columbia University and comes to FDU with years of experience as both a corporate generalist and litigation attorney with premier law firms, corporations and higher education. He has provided important contributions in particular to Columbia since 2006, contributions such as designing and implementing the infrastructure for Columbia’s global programs, including new policies and procedures; negotiating information technology agreements to assist key university functions; supporting the launch of new research and academic programs in the U.S. and overseas; and developing and delivering compliance programs, resources and training to meet critical regulations. Prior to his work at Columbia, Mr. Silver was the Manager for Global Contracts Development at IBM and Associate General Counsel at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

The Christian Theological Seminary has announced that Rev. Dr. David M. Mellott will serve as its seventh president. His tenure will officially begin on July 1, 2019. Since 2011, Dr. Mellott has served as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean, and Professor of Theological Formation at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA. An ordained minister with the United Church of Christ, Dr. Mellott provides an especially unique perspective for the ecumenical Indianapolis campus; he grew up with roots in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was previously ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1982. Lebanon Valley College has selected Dr. Monica Cowart as their new vice president of academic affairs effective July 1, 2019.  Dr. Cowart is currently the vice provost at Merrimack College and will bring with her to campus extensive leadership experience with graduate and online education, enrollment management, assessment, strategic planning, global education, honors programming, budgeting, faculty hiring, and fundraising. She has spent nearly 20 years at Merrimack, where she rose from professor to department chair, associate dean, and vice provost. During that time, Merrimack has grown from an enrollment of 2,500 to more than 4,500. Last year, Dr. Cowart was named a fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE). Dr. Cowart received her bachelor’s degree in philosophy with research honors from Illinois Wesleyan University, a graduate certificate in women’s studies from the University of Georgia, and a master’s in counseling psychology from Lesley University. She completed her doctorate in the philosophy of psychology with a dissertation on embodied cognition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She joins LVC with tenure and full professorship status. Marietta College has announced that the search for Vice President for Enrollment Management has concluded with the hiring of Scott Schaeffer.  Mr. Schaeffer has a long successful career in enrollment management. Since 2007, he has served as Vice President for Enrollment Management at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Previously he was Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, Dean of Admission at the University of Evansville (Indiana), Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Kentucky Wesleyan College and Director of Admission at St. Norbert College. He began his career at his alma mater, De Paul University, as an Admissions Counselor. Scott received his baccalaureate degree from DePaul and a masters in organizational leadership from Marian University.
