Radford University has named Dr. Matthew Smith as permanent Dean of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences effective February 25, 2020. Dean Smith has served as interim Dean since 2018. Prior to Dean Smith's interim role, he served as Director and Professor of Communication since joining Radford in 2016. Dean Smith received a bachelor's degree in English from West Liberty State College; a master's degree in English from Ohio University; and a doctorate in Interpersonal Communication from Ohio University. Mount Mercy University’s Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Robert (Bob) Beatty to serve as its 10th president, effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Beatty has served as the dean of the Soules College of Business and F.M. and Fannie Burke Professor at the University of Texas at Tyler, the dean of the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University, the dean of the Rohrer College of Business at Rowan University, and the dean of the School of Business at Whitworth University. He was a member of the faculty at Northern Illinois University, Texas Christian University, Miami University, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Beatty began his professional career as an officer in the United States Air Force. Dr. Beatty earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Texas Christian University, a Master of Computer Science Management from Creighton University, and a Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration from Mississippi State University. Southern Connecticut State University has appointed Dr. Trudy Milburn as its new Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Milburn currently serves as assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Science and as Director of Academic Programs at Purchase College, State University of New York. Previously, she was the founder of the Communication Program at California State University, Channel Island where she also worked as co-director of the Center for Community Engagement. At Baruch College, CUNY, Dr. Milburn was Deputy Director of the Graduate Studies Program in Corporate Communication. She also served six years as the Director of Campus Solutions at Taskstream, where she provided consultations in online and onsite software programs that brought her into close alignment with many accreditation agencies. Dr.Milburn holds a BA in Rhetoric and Communication from the University of California, Davis, an MA in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University, and a PhD in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Southern Connecticut State University has appointed Dr. Bruce Kalk as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Kalk joined the faculty at Southern in 1992 as Assistant Professor of History. He worked his way up through the faculty ranks, serving also as Chair of the Department of History, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and then Interim Dean. He received his baccalaureate degree from the College of William and Mary and his master’s and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of The Origins of the Southern Strategy: Two-Party Competition in South Carolina, 1950-1972.
Milliken University has announced the appointment of Dr. James M. Reynolds as its 16th president, effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Reynolds currently serves as President of Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio, a position he's held since 2012. Prior to Wilmington College, Dr. Reynolds served as the academic vice president at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. Previously, he held various teaching and administrative positions at Drake University, including Associate Dean and Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy. Dr. Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Drake University and a Master of Arts in Zoology from DePauw University. His Ph.D. in Biology is from Illinois State University. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has appointed Ms. Lana Poole as its new Chief Marketing and Enrollment Officer. She will lead the offices of University Communications and Marketing (UCM), Admissions, Recruitment, Financial Aid and Scholarships. Ms. Poole brings extensive marketing and communications experience to the University, having served as vice president for marketing and strategic communications at Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri, for the past four years and as executive director of marketing at Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri, from 2009 to 2015. Ms. Poole received her bachelor’s degree in organizational communications from Southwest Missouri State University and a master’s in public administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Bennett College appointed Mr. James (Jim) Hastings as its new Vice President of Finance and Business Operations and Chief Financial Officer on January 27, 2020. His financial management experience includes over twenty years in the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role at various institutions in the banking industry. Mr. Hastings is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs. Mr. Hastings earned his B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame as well as his M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA).
Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, has named Dr. Elizabeth Paul as its 10th President. She was welcomed to the Nazareth community by the outgoing president Dr. Daan Braveman. Dr. Paul has served as the 16th president of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and previously spent seven years as the senior academic officer at Stetson University in Central Florida. Dr. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a doctorate in personality psychology, both from Boston University. She did a pre-doctoral training fellowship with the National Institute of Mental Health, and earned a certificate in higher education administration from Harvard Institute for Educational Management. 12/20/2019 - The University of Akron has named Dr. Stephen Storck, a former Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Ashland University, as Interim Chief Financial Officer. Dr. Storck was most recently the interim Vice President for Finance and Administration at the State University of New York, Geneseo, and before that was Interim Chief Business Officer for Xavier University.
