Morris Brown College has appointed Dr. Anthony B. Johnson as its new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Anthony Johnson brings to Morris Brown College extensive administrative experience having served at a broad range of higher education institutions including HBCU’s. He most recently served as the Interim Vice President for Academic Affair and Chief Academic Officer at Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi; a master’s degree in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Special Education, Research & Statistics from Jackson State University. Read more here.

The University at Buffalo Foundation Board has announced the appointment of Anastacia “Stacy” Knapper as Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Knapper will oversee $1.2 billion in current assets and provide strategic leadership and direction. A senior executive with extensive legal and cross-industry experience, Ms. Knapper currently serves as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the Indiana University Foundation. Prior to joining the IU Foundation, Ms. Knapper served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Vera Bradley, Inc. Ms. Knapper received her JD from the University of Notre Dame Law School and her BS in English Literature and Film Studies from the University of Kent, Canterbury England. Ms. Barbara J. Lawrence, J.D., M.P.A., was selected as Rider University's inaugural Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). Ms. Lawrence previously served in a similar role at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., where she developed the institution’s five-year strategic diversity, equity and inclusion plan and served as an associate professor in the criminal justice and community and justice studies programs.

He was currently serving as the Interim VPFA placed by AGB Interim Search in January 2021. Mr. Barfield is an accomplished CFO with an extensive financial background in both higher education and corporate settings.  He recently served as Special Assistant to the President at St. Augustine College in Chicago, Illinois for two years until late 2020 where he was brought in to advise on key financial and operational issues relating to a turnaround situation.  In addition, he has served as the Vice President for Business Operations and CFO for Carthage College.  He is a Certified Management Accountant and holds an MBA and BA from St. Edwards University.  Read more here.

The Washington Center has appointed Ms. Kimberly Churches as its first female Chief Executive Officer in its 46-year history. Ms. Churches most recently served as the chief executive officer for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where she developed and implemented a comprehensive strategic plan. Under Churches’ leadership, AAUW is in its best financial position in more than a decade. Prior to AAUW, Churches served as managing director for the Brookings Institution. Before her promotion to managing director she served as the vice president for institutional advancement. Her accomplishments built on prior successful efforts as associate vice chancellor at the University of Denver and director of development at the University of North Florida.

Brown as the new Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) and Founding Director of the School of Health and Clinical Sciences. Dr. Brown is a Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at Jackson State University. He previously served as Dean of the College of Public Service at Jackson State from 2013 to 2018. He received his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from Howard University.

Prior to joining ASTHF, she served as a senior director of development for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, director of special projects for the Tennessee Department of Education.
