Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Administration

University of Wisconsin-Madison has successfully appointed Ms. Angela M. Miller as Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Administration. She started her new role on October 9, 2023. Ms. Miller currently serves as the Assistant Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion & Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a role she has held since 2018. She also serves as the Chief of Staff in a dual appointment with the Chancellor. Previously, she was the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, the College Scholar Advisor for the PEOPLE Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Research Assistant and Office Coordinator for the Minority Student Achievement Network at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ms. Miller is a Juris Doctor Candidate at Mitchell Hamline School of Law with a Certificate in Native American Law and Sovereignty. She holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Provost of Academic Affairs and Workforce Education

Polk State College has appointed Dr. Amy Bratten, associate provost of teaching and learning at Southeastern University, as the Provost of Academic Affairs and Workforce Education. Dr. Bratten began on July 3, 2023. Dr. Bratten joined Southeastern University in 2007 and has served the institution in several capacities: ESOL faculty, department chair, associate dean, dean of the College of Education; interim dean, College of Arts and Media; professor; and finally in the associate provost role. She describes herself as a higher education administrator with demonstrated experiences in leadership, global education/study abroad, strategic planning, teaching, professional development, accreditation/program approval, grant writing/oversight, program design/implementation/review, curriculum development, student success, academic advising, academic integrity, creative problem solving, ideation, programmatic assessment, and community engagement/partnerships. Dr. Bratten earned a Doctorate of Education at Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Arts from University of Central Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. Read more.

Senior Vice President & Provost

Alvernia University has appointed Dr. Leamor Kahanov as its next Senior Vice President and Provost. Dr. Kahanov will begin on August 1st. Dr. Kahanov has over 25 years of higher education experience as a provost, dean, and professor. She has extensive experience in revising general education essential learning outcomes, creating faculty mentorship programs, academic affairs and institutional strategic planning, and developing academic programs. Since 2021, Dr. Kahanov has been Provost and Vice President Academic Affairs at Stockton College. Prior to that, Dr. Kahanov served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Oneonta. Professionally, she has served as an athletic trainer for several institutions and the Olympic Games. Dr. Kahanov received a bachelor's degree in exercise science and athletic training from Indiana University-Bloomington, an M.S. in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Arizona, and an Ed.D. in education, curriculum and instruction from the University of San Francisco. Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty

The Christian Theological Seminary has named Dr. Francisco Lozada, Jr. as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty effective July 1, 2023. Dr. Lozada joins CTS from Brite Divinity School where he most recently served as the Charles Fischer Catholic Professor of New Testament and Latinx Studies and the Director of the Borderlands Institute and the Latinx Studies Program. Prior, he served as Chair of the Department of Religious Studies and Thomas A. French Chair in Religious Studies at University of the Incarnate Word. Dr. Lozada holds a PhD in New Testament and Early Christianity from Vanderbilt University, a MTS from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a BA in Religious Studies from John Carroll University. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Puerto Rican parents and is Catholic with a commitment to strong ecumenical and interfaith relationships. Read more here.

Vice President for Academic Affairs

Seminole State College of Florida has appointed Dr. Loretta Ovueraye as its new Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Ovueraye currently serves as the Vice Provost for Workforce Programs and Professional Learning at Miami Dade College. Prior to her role as Vice Provost, Ovueraye served as Dean of Faculty at Miami Dade. Dr. Ovueraye served Miami Dade as the lead for the State of Florida Committee for Workforce Education (CWE), as well as a guided pathways coach for the Achieving the Dream network and Florida Success center. Dr. Ovueraye holds a B.S. in Microbiology from Edo State University (Nigeria), a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of London (UK) and earned her Ed. D. in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty

Cottey College has appointed Dr. Karla McCain as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. She will begin on July 1st. Dr. McCain has been Provost at Blackburn College since 2021.  Prior to Blackburn College, she spent 18 years at Austin College and served in a number of roles, including Program Director of Gender Studies, Director of Accreditation and Assessment, Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, and, most recently, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.  She was also a tenured professor in chemistry.  Dr. McCain is eager to shepherd the mission of Cottey College to develop women as leaders through intellectually engaging curricular and co-curricular experiences and to prepare them to serve their local and global communities. Dr. McCain received a B.A. in chemistry from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in physical/analytical chemistry from the University of Utah. Provost & Senior Vice Presient

Texas Southern University has announced the appointment of Dr. Carl Goodman as its new Provost and Senior Vice President. Since 2020, Dr. Goodman has served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bowie State University (BSU). Prior to that, Dr. Goodman served as associate provost for academic affairs and student services at Florida A&M University (FAMU) and enjoyed a distinguished career in leadership roles within FAMU’s flagship program, the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where he restructured a vibrant graduate program and developed a new Bachelor of Science program in the pharmaceutical sciences. He also brings a strong track record in securing grants. Dr. Goodman holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology/toxicology from Florida A&M University and a B.S. in biology and psychology from Jacksonville University. He was a postdoctoral NIH fellow at the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Read more here.

Provost

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences has announced the appointment of Dr. Wayne Miller as its new Provost. He is currently serving as the Dean of the College of Science at Morehead State University. Dr. Miller has extensive administrative experience in health science programs which include serving as Director of the Center for Rural and Community Health at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and Department Chair at the George Washington University Medical Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Brigham Young University, an M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Utah State University, and a B.A. in Physical Education/Math from Southern Utah State College. Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has selected Dr. John Pelesko to serve as its next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Pelesko, currently the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware (UD), will start on August 1, 2023. He brings rich experience to the role, having served as a professor, department chair, associate dean, interim dean and dean at UD, where he has worked since 2002. In four years as dean, he led UD’s largest and most diverse college, with 8,000 students and an annual budget of about $150 million. During that period, the college developed new and innovative academic programs that led to new revenue and resource opportunities and enabled Delaware to invest in faculty and build an environment that encourages increased research grant activity. Sponsored expenditures in the College of Arts and Sciences have grown by more than 31% during his tenure. Before UD, Pelesko taught mathematics at Georgia Institute of Technology and computing and mathematical sciences at California Institute of Technology. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematical sciences from NJIT and a B.S. in Pure Mathematics from Boston University. Read more here.

Provost

Dr. Paula Crone has been appointed as the new Provost for Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Crone has served as Interim Provost since April 2022 and will begin her official role as Provost on February 6, 2023. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Crone served as Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) & COMP-Northwest at Western University of Health Sciences, Interim Dean of COMP & COMP-Northwest and as Executive Associate Dean for COMP-Northwest. Dr. Crone helped launch the COMP-Northwest campus, the first new medical school in Oregon in over a century. Prior to joining the WesternU leadership team, Dr. Crone was a respected family practitioner in Oregon, serving as a partner in private practice and as the Program Director of the Family Practice Residency Program at Eastmoreland Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She also served as a consultant for graduate medical education development at Samaritan Health Services and on the Oregon Healthcare Workforce Task Group. Dr. Crone is an alumna of WesternU, earning her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. Her Bachelor of Science in biology was earned at the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon.
