An experienced educator, the CIEO will partner with faculty in developing curriculum and classrooms that foster inclusion and promotes experiential learning in the context of a practical, biblical understanding of race and ethnicity as well as gender and class. Wheaton’s commitment to deepen ethnic diversity began when abolitionist Jonathan Blanchard moved to Wheaton IL in 1860 to become the leader of the Illinois Institute, which had been formed on abolitionist principles by Wesleyan Methodists seven years earlier. Later that year the institute became Wheaton College with Jonathan Blanchard as its first president, continuing his concern for the education of African-Americans, some of whom lodged in his home.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced academic degree, demonstrate deep evangelical theological understanding and have significant experience and expertise in building and supporting organization-wide initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
