Thomas B. Courtice
Tom Courtice serves as Associate Managing Principal and Senior Consultant, and on April 29, 2015, he was named the next Managing Principal of AGB Search. He brings ten years of distinguished search achievement to AGB Search and nearly four decades of prior accomplishment in college administration. During his tenure as a senior consultant at Academic Search, Inc., he served as that firm’s president (2008-2010) and completed nearly 50 searches for college and university presidents and chancellors, provosts, vice presidents, and deans and developed an uncommon resource base for future searches.
Reflecting on his own experience as president of three independent colleges, Dr. Courtice has built a strong search reputation within the independent college network. His presidencies at Ohio Wesleyan University (1994-2004), West Virginia Wesleyan College (1986-1994), and Westbrook College (1977-1986), and his early work as a faculty member and administrator at Hamline University (1967-1977) have provided an experienced base of understanding about the qualities and future needs of leadership in higher education.
Dr. Courtice has furthered his engagement of higher education by serving on the Boards of Trustees at Ripon College (WI) and Hilbert College (NY), the Advisory Board of the Appalachian College Association, the NCAA Executive Committee, and several educational associations. He has been an invited speaker and presenter at several national association meetings, having participated recently in AGB’s National Conference on Trusteeship, CIC’s President’s Institute, and ACE’s Advancing to the Presidency Seminar.
