Richard Giese joined AGB Search in 2015, following a highly-successful career of 39 years in private, higher education. Throughout his career, Dr. Giese recruited, trained and mentored many successful leaders who advanced to roles of presidencies or other positions of executive leadership in church related, liberal-arts based colleges and universities. Now at AGB Search, he is sharing his expertise in matching outstanding, talented candidates with exciting opportunities in the academic world.
Prior to joining AGB Search, Giese served with distinction as president of both Monmouth College (IL) and the University of Mount Union (OH). At both institutions, he assembled energetic administrative teams that developed ambitious, far reaching strategic plans which resulted in major curriculum revision and innovation (including the development and implementation of graduate programs and revising the general education program). Under his leadership, both institutions achieved all-time record enrollments and retention, successful capital campaigns (totaling over $200 Million) and the construction of numerous, new campus facilities. Some of his specific campus development achievements included securing the resources to design and construct a library, a science center, a performing arts center and a chapel/auditorium. In addition, both institutions, under Giese, built new housing villages, renovated existing residence halls and constructed new athletic/recreation centers.
Dr. Giese began his career as a faculty member and coach at Averett College where, in his second year, he was named Dixie Conference Basketball Coach of the Year. He then moved to the University of Mount Union in a similar position, before being appointed to take over there as Vice President for Enrollment and later as Vice President for Advancement. He then assumed the Presidency at Monmouth College, during which the college experienced unprecedented growth campus wide. He then returned to the University of Mount Union as President for the decade immediately preceding his joining AGB Search. Upon his retirement from Mount Union, Dr. and Mrs. Giese were recognized by having the Giese Center for the Performing Arts named in their honor.
